Naga Festival

A great time to visit Thailand Painting Holidays is during the Naga Festival when glowing balls of fire erupt from the Mekong River.  These can be viewed from our terrace which has one of the best views of the Mekong River and the fireballs in the Province of Nong Khai

Phon Phisai is famous for the Naga Fireballs or Mekong Lights.  Glowing balls of fire erupt from the river high into the air.  They occur in late October on the last day of Buddhist Lent around the night of Wan Ok Phansa at the end of the rainy season.

This year it will be on Saturday the 16th of October, 2016 and this is a good time to visit us for a painting and photography holiday.

Thousands of people travel from all over Thailand to see this phenomenon which occurs over a great distance of the river centred around Phon Phisai.  Mekong House is a perfect viewing position for the Naga Fireballs with a clear view across the river.

Most people believe they are a natural phenomenon but some are sceptical http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naga_fireball

The festival is a wonderful time to visit us.  It is very crowded but there a many interesting activities.  One of the most moving is when everybody along the banks of the Mekong light fire lanterns made of paper and bamboo.  Thousands of these drift high in the night sky over the river and Lao.  It is a very lovely scene and experience.

Our balcony and terrace has probably the best view of the Mekong fireballs in Phon Phisai so it's a popular place for friends and our guests

We let send off some of these lanterns for all our guests together with fireworks for their last night with us.
